Having personally experienced pain and struggle, Emalee knows how hard life can be. She has also felt the benefits of having a trusted person help her make sense of her story. Emalee feels honored to have the opportunity to journey with others, no matter what must be faced. No one is too broken for counseling or so untouched by brokenness that they cannot benefit from counseling. Emalee works from the belief that all people have innate worth and dignity, and change happens when we are fully seen, known, and accepted by others. With warmth, empathy, and genuineness, her goal is to work together to remove obstacles in the way of your growth.
Emalee works with issues such as spiritual questioning, spiritual abuse, perfectionism, body image, self-esteem, depression, anxiety, grief, relational issues, pregnancy/postpartum, parenting issues, and developmental and complex trauma. She considers her style of counseling to be integrative and collaborative. Emalee pulls from attachment theory, emotion-focused techniques, family systems, interpersonal, psychoanalytic, and somatictherapies to create a unique approach for each client.
It takes great courage to seek help. Looking for a counselor can feel difficult and scary; but the benefits of a good match are really worth it. You have gone through a lot to get where you are. Emalee would be honored to walk with you towards healing and wholeness.
When Emalee is not in the office, she and her husband, Andrew, their two kids, and their adorably-rambunctious Goldendoodle pup like to explore the city, go to the beach, and watch movies. After several moves around the South and Midwest, Emalee and her family are happy to put down some roots and call Birmingham home.
